10 Places to Celebrate Grandparent’s Day in Denton County

We love to celebrate the grandparents in our lives! And while our grands love a thoughtful gift and precious card from their grandbabies, they also really value quality time! Here are 10 places to spend time together as a family in Denton County over Grandparent’s Day weekend, September 7 and 8.

1. Dog Days of Denton

On Saturday, September 7, from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., you can catch the Dog Days of Denton festival with vendors for pets and people, as well as other canine fun, such as a dog costume and singing contest. The event is free, but you can buy a VIP package.

2. Freedom Fest Country Music Concert

The Freedom Fest Country Music Concert honoring 9/11 victims is in Prosper on Saturday, September 7, with a fun musical line up and lots of vendors. This is a free and family-friendly event.

3. Grandscape

Grandscape in The Colony is a fun location to walk around as a family. Check out the hidden playground, mini Ferris wheel, and fish tank in Scheels, and then head to one of its dozen restaurants for brunch. For $12 – $17, take a ride on the full-size Ferris wheel — an air-conditioned activity for every age with a short wait time.

4. Gymboree Play and Pictures

Play and pose with the grands during a photography session at Gymboree Southlake during open gym. For kids ages six and under and their grandparents, pictures will be from 10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 7. An open gym pass is $20 regularly.

5. Jump & Jams

Jump & Jams at the north campus of Fellowship of the Parks in Northlake is perfect for the groovy grandparent! Grandparents and grandkids alike will love the “Silent Disco,” where you control the music you hear for the ultimate dance party, on Saturday, September 7, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. This free indoor event will have inflatables, laser tag, a movie room, and concessions. 

6. Little Elm Beach

Pack up the family and head to Little Elm Beach! Parking costs $10, but the rest of the beach is free to enjoy. And while there is a café, we love bringing a cooler with food, plus chairs and an umbrella.

7. Musical Bingo

Get schooled, musically, by g-ma and g-pa at Soulfire Brewing Company in Roanoke during free musical bingo on Sunday afternoons from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Grab the cheesy breadsticks and pretzels while you’re there.

8. PGA Center

Visit the new PGA Frisco center over the weekend. From barbecue classes and putting practice to crafts and evening movies on the lawn, there is something for everyone in the family to enjoy! Costs and age limit vary by activity.

9. Roughriders Game

Bring your baseball-loving grands to a home game, and let the little ones play around the stadium at a family-friendly Roughriders game on Saturday or Sunday. Ticket prices range from $15 – $50.

10. School Events

If your child is in elementary school, check the school calendar for any events honoring grandparents. Often, school will host a breakfast, lunch, craft, or pep rally.
