January 5 – 31 :: 2025 I Have a Dream 1M, 10K, 13.1, 26.2 :: Virtual
A portion of every registration fee (15%) will be donated to the Equal Justice Initiative dedicated to ending mass incarceration and excessive punishment in the United States. Runners receive a bib, a medal featuring a quote from Dr. King, and the honor of progressing social justice and equality.
January 11 – 12 :: Lovepacs Denton Pack :: Denton
Join Lovepacs Denton in helping provide food and care packages to children in need. Your time and effort will directly support local kids facing food insecurity during school breaks. There are a variety of opportunities available, from packing boxes to writing encouraging notes. Times vary by day.
January 20 :: Day of Service Cemetery Clean Up :: Lewisville
Clean up and revitalize Champion – Macedonia Cemetery. This historic Black cemetery was founded in the 1880s and is believed to hold as many as 134 unmarked graves. Bring large trash bags, weed eaters, garden tools, leaf blowers, gloves, and rakes. Service hours are 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
January 20 :: MLK Jr. Day Celebration by Denton Parks and Recreation :: Denton
Denton hosts an annual celebration featuring a march and various service activities at MLK Jr. Rec Center. This year’s theme, “Mission Possible: Protecting Freedom, Justice, and Democracy,” invites participants to honor Dr. King’s legacy through service and advocacy in the spirit of love and nonviolence. Event hours are 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
January 20 :: MLK of North Texas :: Flower Mound
Bring dried goods and canned foods to Marcus High School arena. Every year, MLK of North Texas raises money and collects food for North Texas communities, as well as presenting two high school seniors with the The Dr. King Service Award Scholarship. Event begins at 6:00 p.m.
